Born and raised in the motor city aka Detroit, MI, Dani Robinson was surrounded by the sounds of Motown. His appreciation of great music led to a fascination with the guitar. As a young guitarist he spent his formative years wood shedding (practicing), Immersed in the recordings of guitar greats such as Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), Grant Green, Jeff Beck (The Jeff Beck Group), Eric Clapton (Cream), Pete Townsend (The Who) and of course Jimi Hendrix.
Other notable influences include early Scorpions guitarist Uli Roth, Iconic jazz trumpeter Miles Davis and Eric Johnson. As an up and coming guitar slinger Dani decided to move west to Los Angeles to take part in the historic rock-n-roll scene. Soon after his arrival in Tinseltown he joined with Singer, Songwriter Gregory Darling to form Darling Cruel and signed with Polydor records and began recording the bands debut album. Next Dani worked with MCA recording artist (Madonna backup singer) Donna Delorey to record her debut album which featured a song written and recorded by “Madonna”.
In 1994 Dani hooked up with the LA rock band “Grass” with Steven Anastos Lead Vocalists and Rhythm Guitarist, Drummer Mark Morrow and bassist Phil Gibson both Mark and Phil later joined Dani to form the “Stone Free Experience”. However sometimes good things must wait & it would be another ten years before the three reconnected. After his time in Grass, Dani joined legendary keyboardist Brian Auger opening a show for Guitarist Robert Cray, The Neville Brothers and Dwizel Zappa at the San Diego Street Scene. During 1996 he once again collaborated with Greg Darling (Darling Cruel) and “Scorpions” drummer Herman Rarebell, Recording Greg’s solo debut on Monaco Records. During this period he recorded the music for a TV commercial with Kamaal of Arrested Development for South West Bell and a radio jingle for Cherry Coke.
In 1998, Dani Robinson performed on the TV show “Soul Train” playing guitar for recording artist Craig David and later in the year joined violinist Lili Haydn’s band touring the US and Canada opening for Guitarist Jimmy Page and Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin) on the “Walking into Clarksdale” tour. On this tour he played at many legendary music venues including “Madison Square Garden” and the “Hollywood Bowl”.
In 2001, Dani formed the group “Drifting Sun” and recorded and released an independent CD. He has also toured with reggae artist “Elan”. In 2003 Dani toured with “Thunderhand Joe” and the “Medicine Show”. During Christmas, New Years 2004 and again in 2005 & 2006, Dani performed with the band “Off the Wall” for US troops in Iraq, Kuwait, Afghanistan, Bosnia, Sarajevo and Germany. Also in 2004 Dani recorded with funk rock legends “Mothers Finest”. In 2005 he performed and recorded with R&B soul artist “Res” as well as reggae group “Mongoose”. In early 2008 Dani toured Australia and New Zealand with Bob Marley’s group “The Wailers” featuring Elan Atias on vocals.
Shorty after “The Wailer’s” tour Dani once again reunited with his long time friend and former band mate Gregory Darling to promote his debut CD on FOD records performing live on German TV and touring Germany as the support act for the Legendary German group “Fury In The Slaughterhouse”. During a short break while on tour Gregory invited him to visit Prague which lead to his love affair with the beautiful magical city. In 2009 Dani traveled to Amsterdam to Play guitar on the FOD records debut album for the Italian group “Marti”, While doing the same in Roma for Gregory Darling’s second solo album for Fod records. In October-November of 2011 he traveled to Brussels, Belgium to play guitar on the FOD records debut album for the legendary British boy band “East 17” and during February 2012 he returned to Brussels to play guitar on the third Gregory Darling solo album for FOD records.
